Caves Road is the spine of the wine region, running roughly parallel to the coast with most cellar doors branching directly off it. Leeuwin Estate and Vasse Felix are the two names that come up most for a reason — both pair serious wine with food worth planning a meal around, not just a tasting.
The coastline here is a genuine surf destination, not just a wine region with a beach attached. Margaret River Main Break is world-class and serious — this is not learner territory. Gnarabup, just south, is calmer and better suited to beginners or anyone wanting a swim rather than a session.
